Version 2: Profiles, Follow, and Publish.

We are delighted to announce Minus v2.0, just in time for SXSW!

v2.0 brings us one step closer to Universal Sharing. Not only do you have a Public Profile where you can publish collections of photos, music, documents, and files – you can now follow your friends to see their latest published collections via your Minus homepage.

Over the next few days, we will be blogging about our first journey to SXSW. Thank you again for your encouragement. Your support has gotten us here and it’s your feedback that will move us forward. Share Minus with your friends and family and let us know what you think!

New Features

  • Upload limit has now been increased to 25mb per file
  • User profiles are now live! ( my profile here )
    • By default new uploads are Unpublished or Private
    • Simply click on “Publish” inside the gallery edit url menu to publish to your profile ( Screenshot )
    • Publishing a gallery will automatically display it on all your followers’ homepage and your profile
    • Sign up here and get your http://min.us/u/username today and start sharing
  • The main pages of Minus is now Home, Profile and Mine
  • Home
    • Drag and drop to upload and create new galleries (Guest upload still allowed)
    • Timeline tab will display the latest collections shared by people you follow
    • Visited tab will display all the latest links you have visited on Minus
    • Infinite scroll down to see more galleries
  • Profile (link is your username)
    • This links to your own profile where it displays what others will see
    • You can access Preferences and Add a description for your profile
    • You can also remove collections from the profile via Me page
    • Most importantly share this link with your friends so they can follow what you share
    • Infinite scroll down to see more galleries
  • Mine
    • Drag and drop onto Mine page to create new galleries
    • Mine’s default tab will display only stuff you uploaded and created
    • Visited tab is what My Galleries page used to be and displays history of every gallery you’ve visited
    • You can remove galleries from your Mine tab or Visited tab.
    • Infinite scroll down to see more galleries
  • Homepage for guests updated with the first ever official Minus Video

  • Search for friends, people and galleries
  • Ability to see list of followers and those you’re following
  • Ability to preview Microsoft documents, power points and more inside galleries
  • New gallery modes including thumbnails, grid view, full screen and more
  • Allow users to embed galleries with full functionalities
  • Password protection for galleries
  • Add URL redirection/shortener feature on homepage as secondary service

    I really liked it, but i missed a “login automatically next time” in sign in page :(

    Also i would like to see a “share gallery code for HTML/BB code websites (with a couple of sized Thumbnails)”. And i don’t like that way when i click a photo it zooms in another window, it could be same window or even full photo (direct link).

    I discovered Minus today… it’s a great piece of website! I’m already uploading all of my pictures i was afraid to lose.I’m going to write a review soon on my website, and i can’t wait for the new features, specially the password protection one :)

    Hello!!

    I discovered Minus and I love it! It is really slick, easy to use and nice.

    I am just waiting for password protection, or at least a way to keep albums (or full profiles) private (family environment for example), to start using it seriously.

    I’m definitely ready to pay for it :) Unfortunately my technical abilities are very limited so I can’t help in another way!

    Hi John and Carl,

    I found your site today and have uploaded some files in two folders. I love the ease of uploading and the clean interface, and the ability to download a gallery’s contents as a Zip file is especially nice. However, for some reason I’ve been unable to name one of my folders and there is no option to rename it. It would also be nice to be able to choose an image as the gallery cover. Thanks!

    Hi,

    Thanks for the feedback!

    1) To rename your folder, you have to click on the “PENCIL” icon in top right menu. See http://min.us/lmZLO0

    2) To make your image the gallery cover, just make it the 1st image. You can drag the image to top to make it First.

    Thanks for the reply, John. I figured out that I hadn’t entered the gallery through the “edit URL” link. Once I did I was able to name the folder.

    Would it be possible to offer choices of viewing size? I find the images too small in the current format, and clicking on the image to open it in another window at full size is too huge.

    After two days of lots of use I really love the site, and friends I’ve shared it with are very impressed. Thanks again.

    Glad to hear! We’re optimizing the gallery experience to make the default viewing size larger and more optimal, please stay tuned on that!
